The Affirmations of Zentheism
1. I Am a Zentheist
I affirm that I am a Zentheist. I consciously name this path as my own, align with its Affirmations, and embrace daily mindfulness meditation.
2. Reality Revealed
I believe Reality is revealed in many ways, shaped by the maturity of the observer. I will be teachable, using Zentheism as my map and Experience, Reason, Science, and Tradition as my compass.
3. The One True God
I believe in, supremely love, and will only worship the One True God—not as a being or person, but as the perfect, infinite, and eternal Ground of Being, whose Essence transcends time and space, and whose Energies emanate creation.
4. The Matrix of Becoming
I believe I am a spark of Divinity in the Matrix of Becoming. Here, our consciousness grows, guided by grace and karma through many lives, until we mature to awakening and union.
5. The Hermit Mystic
I live the life of solitude as a hermit, a sole practitioner traveling the mystic way of awakening, purgation, illumination, dissolution, and union.
6. Spiritual Growth
I believe part of my spiritual growth is to overcome the internal hindrances of selfish desires, attachment, aversion, laziness, agitation, and ignorance; and to overcome the external obstacles of social pressure, physiological barriers, and unseen forces of evil.
7. Right Intention
I aim for the highest good of God supremely, the highest good of my fellow humans equally with my own good.
8. Right Speech
I speak words that are true, helpful, kind, necessary, and at the appropriate time.
9. Right Action
I act in kindness and compassion toward all people, everywhere and always, without discrimination. I strive to live nonviolently and harmlessly, seeking to be a good citizen of the world.
10. Right Stewardship
I care for animals and the environment, being a good steward of this good earth.
11. Renunciation
I practice renunciation, withdrawing from society, cultivating non-attachment, practicing self-restraint, and controlling my thoughts.
12. Simplicity
I practice simplicity, letting go of excess, distraction, and complexity. I refuse to be possessed by possessions.
13. Mental Development
I develop wholesome mind states through Right Effort, cultivating Right Mindfulness through the daily practice of Right Meditation, that I might awaken to reality and grow into God.
14. Daily Prayer
I practice gratitude, praising, and giving thanks for God’s gifts and blessings. Praying when waking, before meals, before going to bed, and for forgiveness when failing.
15. The Prayer of Awakening
I promise to pray the Prayer of Awakening every day as long as I am a Zentheist.
Prayer of Awakening
O God, beyond name and form, Most Gracious and Most Merciful, I will meditate daily and worship You alone. Grant me the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You, that the eyes of my understanding may be enlightened, that I might awaken to the true nature of reality. Bless me with discernment; protect me from evil; help me always walk in love. May I be a light in the darkness, a healer to the hurting, and a guardian for the Earth. Amen.
